More: Chivy was our first dog, and the smartest dog I've ever known. She was named after Civitavecchia, the port city of Rome, where my husband and I spent our honeymoon. As a puppy, Chivy would run five laps at full tilt around our house. She had boundless energy, and would run alongside us on bike rides. She loved everyone (after the initial barks), and was so kind and patient with little children. Chivy lived to be 16 years old, and we still miss her dearly.
