More: We brought Clemente home in March, 2012 so that our two daughters -- 7 and 5 at the time -- would know the love of a dog, specifically a Labrador, the kindest, keenest and most big-hearted breed of them all. Our daughters are Puerto Rican and Nicaraguan, so when my wife saw the book titled Clemente on my shelf, a Puerto Rican who died heroically trying to get aid to Nicaragua, we knew we had a perfect name for our pal. Late last year, he had a cancerous tumor removed from his side, but his prognosis is good. We hope he'll be with us forever.
