Koshka

The most beautiful creatures in the world are your friends

More: Koshka is my first dog and I adopted him last year. He was a stray, malnourished, had worms, and had been shaved. Three people had come to shelter to meet him and didn’t want him. He was actually on sale for $25. (Funny because I spend more than that on just one of his nice toys) I fell in love when I met and while it hadn’t been easy, adopting him has been the best decision I’ve ever made as an adult. I have had to be a better person and leader to be able to give him the stability, consistency, exercise, training, discipline and care that he needs. My goal has always been to give him his best possible life and that in turn has made me live my best life. We roller blade, bike, and cannicross through the hills together. I recently bought a row boat so we can go on the river and he can look at the fish and birds he loves. I tether him to me and we swim together in the ocean. He wasn’t trusting or affectionate towards humans at all when I first brought him home and it took 6 months until I got my first kiss and 8 months until he would sleep on my bed. Now I get around 10 minutes of snuggles in the morning before he jumps down, a big improvement! He’s such an amazing athlete and is the fastest dog at the dog park and incredibly patient and kind with even the small dogs that love to jump on and play with him. I got him because during my research I read that huskies are very active and very independent which aligns very much with my life. I like that he doesn’t try to please me all the time, he is living his life and the time we spend together builds our relationship and our bond. There is nothing I have ever experienced that is the feeling of running with him through the woods. His energy awakens the connection I have to the earth and together we are a motley but fitting pair.
