More: We rescued Lucy and her ½-sister, Lola, from a "breeder" (he called himself that, anyway) who raised dogs and roosters. We had already agreed to take Lola, when this wet, shivering ball of fur comes whimpering and whining up the hill through the mud and chicken slime. To put it bluntly, there was no way in hell we were leaving that pup behind, so we came home with two dogs. We took them straight to the vet, who told us that Lucy was so anemic and undernourished, he couldn't give her the first round of shots. That was in July of 2013 ... she's come a long way.
