More: By the time he was one year old, Macgriff was a Certified Vermont Therapy Dog and awarded the Canine Good Citizen. During his lifetime he visited many patients in local hospitals and nursing homes. Additionally, for 11 years, Macgriff served as a volunteer at Cambridge Elementary School in Jeffersonville, Vermont. He was asked to come to school to establish a reading program with kindergarten and first graders so they could enhance their reading experiencee by reading to a dog. He went to school once a week for most of the school day for about 11 years. The program became to be known as the Macgriff Reading Program and continues on today with his younger familly members, Maisy and Cheddar. Macgriff's partner volunteer, Matti is now retired and just had her 16th birthday this past October They are all golden retrievers. Just the other day I met a young women who just started a job with a local care giving agency. Turns out she was a part of the Macgriff Reading Program and has now graduated from high school. She also still has her graduation gart with a picture of her and Macgriff on the cover. It's been a wonderful experience for the dogs and me too.
