Penny at the Beartree Cafe in Centennial, Wyoming following a hike in the mountains

More: When she was only 4 months old, Penny was rescued from a backyard puppy mill by the Denver Dumb Friends League, a century-old shelter and animal advocacy. We adopted her when she was 8 months old. We then enrolled her in a local facility where she underwent 100 hours of professional training. Penny is now an ATD-Certified Therapy Dog who volunteers at the nursing home, the hospital, the university and the public library where she participates in the Children Reading to Dogs program.
