More: Smokey was adopted through German Shepherd Rescue and Rehoming at 4 months. At 7 months it was discovered that neither of his hips was attached, poor guy never let on he was in pain. He underwent a double femoral head osectomy. We joked that his name should be “Black Gold” like the song from the Beverly Hillbillies because of his vet bills, but we wouldn’t have had it any other way. His favorite and constant toy is his soccer ball. He was my husband’s constant companion. We lost my husband suddenly and unexpectedly the week of Christmas. He has been my saving grace. He has never been able to get in our bed because of his rear end, but the week after my husband died, I woke to find him laying over my legs. Not to say he is always good, because he can be an absolute maniac!
