Wren and Sophie

Puerto Rican Sisters

More: We adopted Sophie and Wren from a local NY shelter in February of 2022. They spent the first six years of their lives on the streets of Puerto Rico, where they survived through two hurricanes and an earthquake. I poured my entire soul into these two girls, trying to give them the best home full of patience, love and full bellies. They both appeared to be healthy, but there were subtle medical concerns that I would bring to my vet's attention, but nothing seemed serious at first. As the months flew by, Sophie and Wren enjoyed daily hikes throughout the Hudson Valley and by November's end, I ordered a personalized Orvis orthopedic bolster bed for Christmas. But heartbreak was waiting around the corner. In December, Sophie became quite ill, very quickly. After a week of testing, we found that she had a very rare and aggressive form of cancer called histiocytic sarcoma, to which there was no cure. We laid Sophie to rest on December 14, 2022. We were devastated and little Wren was so lost without her sister, but we pulled her through her sorrow (and our own tears) with the help of another rescue we adopted in February 2023. Even though Sophie only lived with us for ten months, our love for her will live on within our hearts.
