More: Girty Mae is proof that adventure doesn’t require four working legs. She was found abandoned on the street, unable to use her back legs, and spent months in rehabilitation before finding her forever home. Today, Girty is still paralyzed and incontinent, but she has never gotten the message that she’s supposed to feel sorry for herself. She scoots, explores, plays, gives endless kisses and is working every day to become stronger. She even surprises us by standing for brief moments. We don’t know what her future mobility will look like, and that’s okay. Our goal is simply to give her every opportunity to live a big, joyful life. Girty reminds us every day that different doesn’t mean less.
