Cap

Taking a rest on this park bench

More: I adopted Cap in 2014 from a shelter for disabled animals where he was sent because he only had one eye. He had been rescued from Arkansas where he was going to be used as dog bait to train fighting dogs. In 2019, I awoke to find Cap under my bed, unable to move his hind legs. He had sustained a disc protrusion in his T13 vertebrae. He underwent surgery to repair the disc and there was no guarantee that he would walk again. He recovered in record time and now, he not only walks, but runs, plays frisbee and retrieves balls. He makes me laugh out loud every day. His spirit is amazing and he epitomizes an Orvis dog: loving the outdoors, hiking, enjoying nature and rivers and streams,. He is a beautiful companion. I've not seen a dog with a disability on the cover of Orvis. Although his one eye is hardly a disability, I think he would be honored to grace the cover of an Orvis Catalog.
