Charlie

Lake hair, don’t care.

More: Charlie came into my life when I needed it most. I know it’s so cliché to say that while I saved her, she saved to me too. But it’s true. From the moment her eyes met mine behind that kennel door, I felt an instant sense of relief and calm. Like I had instantly figured out who I was and what I needed - without question. It’s been 8 years since and not a day goes by that I don’t still feel that way. Charlie has been by my side during some of my lowest moments, and with me during my happiest. I am so grateful to be able to give Charlie the adventures and experiences she’s had so far, and the many more ahead of her. But there’s no adventure better than the ones spent at Lake Michigan. Charlie is a protector, she doesn’t play with toys very often and she’s usually serious about her responsibilities to keep everyone in line at home. But when her nose hits that lakeshore wind and her toes sink into the wet, sandy beaches - that’s when I know she’s at peace. Between jumping into the unknown, biting the waves and chasing all the seagulls off the beach, Charlie sinks into a warm, sandy spot and succumbs to her exhaustion. Knowing I’ve got her back. And it’s moments like this picture that remind me, she will forever be my soulmate, and best friend. My promise to her is to try every day, any chance I can, to give her the moments that will make her smile like this.
