Juneau

Looking towards my bright future!

More: My husband Paul and I have wanted to adopt a dog to complete our two person household for quite some time. While working from home during the pandemic, we thought it would be the perfect time to dive into the process and bring a furry friend home! While researching available adopted dogs, I somehow was redirected to a rescue site for German Shepherds in TN called "Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue" (IDGSR) and BAM!! There she was!!! A BEAUTIFUL and sweet female German Shepherd who they had named "Belladonna" (by the way, my favorite singer is Stevie Nicks, so I thought it was meant to be!). We learned that she has had a tough beginning in her very young life. She was originally found "roaming the streets" in West TN (on the boarder of MS) and animal control was able to get her and bring her to the shelter there, where she stayed for over a month and a 1/2, where sadly, no one claimed her, or displayed any interest. Someone ended up getting her from the shelter and driving her 6 HOURS to the safety of the rescue in East TN. When we saw the video, she had only been there for a day and a half so we immediately submitted an application. To our delight, they called us and after checking our references and interviewing us, told us she was available, but did want us to know that she tested positive for heartworm, which would entail a lengthy and costly treatment. The rescue director told us how she was an absolute sweetheart who was "craving" love and belly rubs. She wasn't into "roughhousing" with the other dogs and would gladly give up her bone if another dog came to claim it. We were hooked and adopted her! She was transported by a wonderful company and her journey included an 18 HOUR drive, with many stops along the day. When we FINALLY met her, the first thing she did was kiss both of us on our cheeks. We were so happy, we had tears running down our faces! She was meant for us, and we were meant for her! We are well into the heartworm treatment now, and she is doing great because she is a survivor with a sweet soul! We renamed her Juneau, after Juneau, AK, where my husband and I went for our honeymoon. We loved the beauty and serenity there, and felt it was the perfect name for our 4 legged angel. We couldn't be happier and are so grateful, Juneau is now part of our home, and has completed our family!
