More: Merrill had a rough start in life but now enjoys a loving home and regular trips to north Texas nature parks! She was born into a life on the streets of Houston, Texas. She was rescued from the streets only to end up in the Harris County Animal Shelter and likely soon to be euthanized. I had previously adopted a dog before I adopted Merrill. Barely a day after I adopted her, however, she became seriously ill. After rushing to the emergency vet, I discovered she had distemper and would never recover. I made the heartbreaking decision to end her suffering. I was determined never to risk another tragedy like that again. A long time passed. Then, on Halloween, I decided I was ready. I went to the Harris County Animal Shelter and found Merrill. She has been with me now almost six years. Merrill loves the outdoors! Her favorite activities include playing fetch at the puppy park, hiking north Texas trails, and swimming in lakes and ponds!
